Have a theory? Please feel free to add it using the following guidelines:

First, check whether your theory is already accounted for on the existing lists providing on the Intruder Theories or Ramsey Did It Theories page. If it is already there, we strongly encourage you to edit/improve the existing posted theory (even if it currently is very abbreviated) rather than post your own duplicate version. If you are certain it is not accounted for, please label your theory and add it into the logical place in the current outline structure and put brackets around it; it will automatically underline the words in brackets in red and you just click on those words to jump to a new page with that name and begin editing!) The structure should be something along the following lines:

The Theory

In writing up your theory, please account for the following:

Motive:

  1. What was the primary motivation for breaking into the house and taking JBR from her bed? (e.g., sexual, sadistic, religious, revenge etc.)
  2. Was there a different motive for the killing (e.g., accidental vs. intentional)?
  3. Was there a motivation to "stage" any part of the killing or its aftermath (e.g., to assuage guilt; to "get back" at parents; to confuse LE)?

Means:

  1. Was the perp experienced or inexperienced?
  2. Was the perp young or old?
  3. Did he use a stun gun? If so, was it to subdue JBR or torture her after s/he'd already gotten her in the basement?
  4. Was the ligature used as a sexual device?
  5. Was the killing planned or unplanned?
  6. Which came first, head blow or strangulation?
  7. Had the perp previously sexually abused JBR?
  8. When was the RN written?
  9. Did s/he "stage" any part of the killing or its aftermath?
  10. Was there a cover-up after the killing? (this would only apply to RDI/friend theories)

Opportunity: (see http://www.cert.org/archive/pdf/homeusers/mmo.pdf for an explanation of the difference between means and opportunity)

  1. How did perp know JonBenet or the family?
  2. How did the perp get into house?
  3. Had the perp "cased" the house and determined it was safe to break in or was s/he lucky the alarm was off etc.?

Incriminating Evidence

In this section, list in order of importance, the evidence that you believe most strongly implicates the perp you believe did it.

Exculpatory Evidence

In this section, list in order of importance, the evidence that you believe most strongly casts reasonable doubt about the perp you believe did it.

Strengths of Theory: key aspects of evidence that are explained, especially "puzzling" pieces of evidence not accounted for by most other theories.

Weaknesses of Theory: things the theory cannot or does not explain well.
